Phone Phobic

Hello, my name is Therese, and I am phone phobic. There. I said it. I know some of you know what I mean. I have a really hard time talking on the phone. If I have never called someone before, like a new friend or a blogging buddy, I find it extremely difficult to make that jump. I figure that they are too busy or truly just won't want to hear from me (yes, I am insecure like that-I always have been). Once I make that first contact, I am pretty good, but that first leap of faith takes a lot from me.

So, there have been some blogging buddies that I have been dying to meet. My friend, Evy, for example is one (along with her daughter, Karyn). I didn't have to go through that total discomfort I feel at being the first one to call. She had an email/FB issue about a year ago, and her daughter called me, and then she called. Issue taken care of. We don't talk often (need to do that more, Evy!), but I have no problem calling my dear friend and bloggy Gramma to my children.

I have the same issue with people I know in real life. I am kind of up-front about it-usually. Takes me forever to make that leap. It is really hard for me to offer my phone number or cell as a result (Kristina-if you read this, it took a lot of courage to offer you my cell number!).

In today's world of technology, though, I find my way around things. I don't need to call. I can email. I can text. I can facebook.  I don't NEED to call. I kind of think this is a problem though. I think it makes life very impersonal.

For whatever reason, though, today I felt encouraged. I decided to take the bull by the horns so to speak. I received a postcard from another dear blogging friend, Nancy that she sent while in Rome. It meant a lot to me, and the beginning on the front was, "Do not be afraid." So I called. I also called Jamie. She and I have been making plans to talk for a while-like over a year. I mustered up all my courage to make these two calls...and no one was home. UGH!

I'm like that, too. My dad gives my sister and I a hard time because we talk on FB more often than on the phone. But we're comfortable there and with both of us having small children at home, it's more convenient to carry on a conversation that way.

I'm exactly like that, Therese! I've picked up the phone TWICE that I can remember...fully intending to dial your number....and then, it hit me....I couldn't remember how to pronounce your name! Can you believe it! THAT'S what has kept me from calling you all these years! I couldn't remember if was "Thereeeese" or "Therez" (Like the Little Flower). I'm so embarrassed to admit it! But there you go! I seem to remember a post some months ago...either from you or Aussie Therese about this very same subject!
Anyway....I was at the beach all afternoon and had my phone at the bottom of the beach bag...and missed your call (NUTS)! You WILL be hearing from me TOMORROW! I'm sooooo glad you called! I'm also glad you liked the postcard! I just wanted to let you know that you are NEVER far from my mind and that I prayed for you and your family while in Rome!
Love ya, girlie!

Ahhhhhhh!!!! I must have been out blowing bubbles with the kiddos?

I'm going to try today.....!!!!

It was cool to hear your voice!

I think the thing with me is, it's always so hard and busy here, I don't schedule time to talk to anyone....so I never call!

I posted yesterday, but for some reason lost it.
I said, soon, very soon we are going to meet. I have free flying privileges. We can attempt to arrange a date:)
